The Kool Aid Man!
I have just remember another way that Family Guy loves to make little flashback scenes in all of their episodes. As you can recall—if you have been keeping up to date and reading all of these entries that I have been posting with regards to how in the heck that they contrive their many different overlapping and wildly imagined plots for the show—that there are many different ways that they like to instigate flashbacks on the show. Aside from picking on Sesame Street, or D-list actors and actresses that have long since left the limelight, and even famous cartoons and other shows, Family Guy quite often plays off famous, commercially branded characters, such as the Kool Aid Man.
If you don’t remember what the Kool Aid Man is, and many of us don’t because we are either too young, or never were around or cared during the Kool Aid fads. To refresh your memories all really quickly, the Kool Aid Man was a character that was used to brand a powdered drink that you mixed with cold water. It tasted kind of lousy, but kids didn’t really know the difference and most didn’t really care. The Kool Aid Man was a big pitcher of red colored water that was flavored, I believe cherry. He had weird eyes and, a nose and a mouth that were etched on the pitcher. The Kool Aid Man was famous for busting through a brick wall and utter his trademark slogan, “Oh yeah!”
Leave it to Family Guy to make fun of this outlandish and oblique character from our sometime youthful days of glory. I believe the first appearance of the Kool Aid Man in Family Guy was actually all the way back to the very first season. Being as this episode is a bit cluttered in my mind—I forget what it actually entails. Needless to say, I have yet another clip for you at the end of this entry.
In this clip, Peter has gotten himself into trouble once again and is standing in court waiting to be sentenced. When the judge sentences him to twenty four months in prison everybody in the room exclaims, “Oh no!” The camera pans to all members of the family as they say those two words. Then the Kool Aid Man breaks through the wall and says, “Oh Yeah!” Realizing that he is out of place, he slowly backs out of the room with a scowl on his face.
