Have you ever wondered why Family Guy is so avid to make fun of the handicapped? Like for a good example, Joe: the wheelchair-bound cop, or even the greased up deaf guy – who makes a cameo in the show every once in a while? Well if you have, there are numerous good reasons for this. Basically, this type of grit comedy relies upon sheer shock value. Without making people’s lips quiver, they wouldn’t be able to get the ratings that they do on a weekly basis. Here is why.
Three Things that Make Family Guy In-Your-Face, Offensive and Hilarious
This show really has learned that by using offensive and brazen comedy, that is always in your face, and comedy that makes your jaw fall open in shock, they can best garner the ratings that they so desire every week. Perhaps this is one of the best reasons as to why the show has always topped the charts for most viewers, and is considered to be one of the most successful comedies since ‘FRIENDS.’
Three Things that Make Family Guy In-Your-Face
1. They don’t know any boundaries. Meaning that they will make fun of anything and everything, from race, to the handicapped, deaf or retarded…to prevalent social issues like gay marriage and the legalization of marijuana.
2. From time to time they will touch on hot social topics that are featured in the news, like OJ Simpson, Fox News, George Bush and many more.
3. Family Guy quite often pulls old commercials or TV shows into their mish mash of comedy, poking fun at nostalgic memories that nearly everybody can relate to.
Joe Cries Hysterically in the Video (Below)
When Joe, the handicapped and over anxious, and always seeming like he is on a steroid binge, semi-retired cop from Family Guy loses the perpetrator because he is bound to his wheelchair from an on-the-job accident, he vents to the guys at the bar. While sitting around chugging suds – as is their daily routine at the local bar The Clam – Joe laments about how he could have caught the ‘perp’ if only he was in better shape and had his legs to use. When Joe starts crying without letting up, the guys become a bit disorientated. They slowly slip out of the booth, one after another, and leave Joe to his own misery.
